Thursday afternoon renovation update

ceiling-3The ceiling is done in the kitchen and the crew is moving on to the hallway and lobby. All that is left is to install the light bulbs and screens, a process that will take place after the appliances are moved in this weekend.

Below are photos of the open ceiling in the day program sitting area.

In addition, we had 10.5 yards of brick stones delivered today. The red brick color will provide a nice contrast to the colors of our building and the shrubbery which surrounds it.

Thursday morning renovation update

renno1The day program closed at 3 p.m. and it only took an hour to clear out all of the chairs and tables from the activities and dining areas. The kitchen was packed the day before, meaning that construction crews could get right to work.

The kitchen will be completely demolished on Friday, but some staff members took a therapeutic swing of the sledgehammer last evening. Below, Cathy James (our CEO and former day program director) and Melissa McMahon (current day program director) bid farewell to the kitchen in their own special way.

Calm before the storm…

beforeHere’s the scene at the Kirkpatrick Day Program as of 11:45 a.m. today. Let’s call it our before picture.

The program closes today at 3 p.m. and construction crews move in at 4 p.m. today. On tap for this afternoon are ceiling updates and lighting enhancements to the kitchen, dining room, hallways and lobby. The lighting will changes will make common areas brighter and better serve the needs of our participants.

In the mean time, staff from the chapter office and day program will be moving chairs, packing cooking utensils, cookware, plates and silverware to make room for the contractors.

Ceiling repairs continue through Friday afternoon. The natural gas line is installed on Friday morning. Work on the kitchen begins during the day Friday and continues through Saturday evening. On Monday, staff will restock the kitchen, and clean and sanitize all areas.

We’ll be documenting the entire renovation and posting updates periodically each day.

Kitchen Renovation Update

Back in June, we told you about CNY Community Foundation’s commitment to our kitchen renovation. The project is slated for August 19-24. The existing kitchen will be demolished to make way for new cabinets, fixtures and appliances which meet the needs of the day program staff and the 25-30 participants served each day.

We’ll be posting updates of the renovation, with photos and updates of what’s been done. But, as valued readers of our news blog, we offer you a sneak peak of what’s to come.
